ENTRY REQUIREMENT

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT

International candidates should:

1. Score in Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) not less than:
   1. 500 in the TOEFL Paper Based Test; or
   2. 173 in the TOEFL Computer Based Test; or
   3. 59 in the TOEFL Internet Based Test
2. Score not less than 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or

International candidates by coursework who they do not meet any of the above English requirements, should sit for the English Language Placement Test (ELPT) (refer below), which will be conducted by UUM, and obtain a passing grade before they are allowed to register for courses.

If the candidates fail the ELPT, they must attend the Intensive English Course for International Students (refer below) for at lease one semester and obtain a passing grade before they are allowed to register for courses.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PLACEMENT TEST (ELPT)

The English Placement Test (ELPT) is a test designed to assess the English language proficiency of international students. The ELPT is compulsory for all international students who do not meet English language requirement set by University.

International student must show the following documents before they are allowed to sit for the ELPT:

      i.        Proof of registration by showing the original letter of offer

     ii.        International passport or smart card is identification

Students who fail to sit the ELPT on the date specified by the University shall take in Intensive English Course for International Students instead.

INTENSIVE ENGLISH COURSE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

The Intensive English Course for International Students is a course designed specially for  international candidates who have not demonstrated an acceptable level of English proficiency. This course is compulsory for the following candidates:

      i.        Those who have failed the English Language Placement Test (ELPT);

     ii.        Those who have failed the ELPT but later produce their acceptable IELTS/TOEFL score that has been obtained after the date ELPT;

    iii.        Those who fail to sit for the ELPT at the specified date.

Students are allowed to take the intensive English Course up to two semesters only. They will be terminated from the university if they fail the course for two consecutive semesters.

GANERAL RULES

If is compulsory for students pursing programme by coursework to take the ELPT/ Intensive English Course for International Student within the first semesters of their candidature. They will not be allowed to register any course any courses unless they have passed the EPLT/ Intensive English Course for International Course;

A pass grade in the ELPT/ Intensive English Course for International Student is requirement for graduate.
